We have your back
It's hard to know where to start. That's why we're here!

Being comfortable talking about sex with our children is not a prerequisite for being a parent. In fact, most parents struggle to know how to approach topics around sexuality.

So few of us actually received comprehensive sexual education when we were young. Preparing to have “the talk” can feel awkward, and it might be challenging for many parents. Sexual health experts recommend that we discuss sexual health topics with our children early and often, and we want to help make those conversations easier for parents and caregivers.

How Can the Annex Help?

At the Annex we have a variety of programs and workshops designed to support you in having conversations about puberty, transitioning to adulthood, healthy relationships, sexual health, and more! We are a resource for you as well as the young people in your life. It’s never to late to get support and start talking with your child!

The Annex provides Parent Education Workshops on the following topics:

  • How to Talk with Youth About Sexual Health
  • Sexual Exploitation of Youth
  • Youth Mental Health
  • And more!

You can request a Parent Education workshop for your friends, your PTA, your congregation, your community sports team, your book club, for any group of adults who want to support the young people in their life and who could benefit from having these important conversations. Email our Education Director, Khadijah Cooper, at khadijah@annexteenclinic.org to learn more or to schedule a workshop.

Seeking a different type of workshop about parent/child communication, puberty, gender and sexuality, or sexual health? Contact us & we’ll work with you! For more information, contact our Education Program Manager, Carissa Stevens

The goal of these workshops is…

  • To increase and improve communication between parents / caregivers and children and to promote healthy sexual activity.
  • To identify key family values you want to share with your children about sexuality.
  • To have you participate in important discussions with other parents and caregivers.
  • To grow your knowledge on what healthy sexual development in adolescents looks like so you can feel confident navigating those milestones.
  • To let you gain comfort in having conversations about healthy sexual behaviors and healthy relationships.

Things to Remember

We know you are doing the best you can. It’s OK to let your child know that, too. When we are honest in our relationships, authenticity will shine through. Kids really respond to it and it can make your communication better going forward!

If you want help and a place to have more conversations about parenting, you can schedule a house party for your friends and family, or attend an Annex workshop! Email our Education Director, Khadijah Cooper, to learn more.
