Artists & Makers: Open Call for Art
To celebrate the Annex Teen Clinic’s 50th anniversary
Do young people in Minnesota deserve:
- fact-based, non-judgmental, and inclusive sexual health information?
- confidential, low or no–cost sexual healthcare that respects bodily autonomy?
- to be centered in decision-making and influence the systems that affect their lives?
- safe space where their identities and experiences are affirmed?
- healthcare systems that acknowledge sexual and reproductive health cannot exist without racial and social justice?
If you are a maker or an artist, and answered yes to all these questions, the Annex Teen Clinic needs your help!
We are seeking artists and makers to represent the Annex’s mission, vision, and values for our 50th Anniversary celebration and fundraiser:
Mission: The Annex Teen Clinic helps young people take charge of their sexual health by providing confidential health services and education.
Vision: The Annex will be a catalyst for creating a community where all young people have the resources and support they need to successfully make the transition from adolescence to adulthood.
Values: Healthy Sexuality, Access, Excellence, Mutual Enrichment, Being Relevant
Art has the power to express our deepest emotions, transform systems, spur new ways of thinking, and inspire action. Your art will help the Annex show, not tell, why our mission matters.
Art will also help us tell the story of our history. You will also help raise funds through our silent auction so we can continue to do the work we do every day: help young people take charge of their sexual health.
Are 100% of the proceeds of the auction donated to the Annex?
It’s up to you! Artists are supporting the Annex and we want to support the arts community.
Artists will have the option of donating 50%, 75%, or 100% of the silent auction proceeds to the Annex. Since the Annex will be managing the silent auction, artists who decide to donate less than 100% will receive a check for the remaining percentage indicated on your submission form. We cannot guarantee that final winning bids will match the suggested value of your piece.
Who can submit?
We are seeking art that is reflective of the incredible diversity and intersectionality of our community. Artists of all racial, ethnic, cultural and language backgrounds, religions, sexual orientations, gender or non-gender identities, artist with disabilities and of all economic backgrounds are encouraged to participate.
Artists can submit from anywhere, and especially, from our immediate community in Robbinsdale, North Minneapolis, Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, and the surrounding cities in Northwest Hennepin County.
Artists of all ages can submit, and especially, artists who identify as young people (age 25 or under).
Submission Deadline: Friday, July 23rd
Notification Deadline: Friday, August 6th
Deadline to deliver or mail works to the Annex: Thursday, August 19th

Is there a fee to submit artwork?
Nope. There are no fees to submit.
How many pieces can I submit?
Each artist can submit up to 2 pieces.
What is your selection criteria?
A panel will review all submitted art. We will consider the piece itself, artist bio, medium, our physical installation space, and the piece’s suggested market value in evaluating the work. We seek to have a diverse array of artwork represented. Special consideration will be given to youth artists, artists who reside in our geographic area, and artists who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, low income, or a member of another historically marginalized community.
What is the range of suggested value for artwork?
We ask you submit pieces with a suggested market value of between $50 – $500.
How will the silent auction work?
All art will be included in our silent auction. Event participants and the general public can bid. Art will have a minimum bid (typically 20% of the piece’s suggested market value), along with the option to immediately buy the piece at a set price determined by the Annex.
How large of a piece can I submit?
Art of any size is welcome. Please note that due to space constraints, pieces larger than 60’’ x 72’’ may not be eligible or selected on a highly competitive basis.
Which types of mediums are accepted?
2D & 3D Work (painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, fiber arts, etc.):
All 2D work needs to arrive ready to hang. Framed pieces or canvas are preferred.
If my piece is selected, how do I get it to the Annex?
We will have multiple dates/times between August 14th – 19th to drop off art at our Robbinsdale location. Further details will be sent if your piece is chosen.
If you are outside the Minneapolis area and cannot physically drop off work you can ship it as long as it arrives no later than August 19th.
What if no one bids on my item?
If your item does not receive a bid, you can choose whether to donate the piece to the Annex for future fundraisers or to pick it up. If you need your item returned via shipping, you will be responsible for paying the costs associated with shipping.
