In a three part series, we will be sharing the incredible story of the Griffin family, who have maintained and grown their connection to the Annex Teen Clinic over three generations: from grandmother (Gretchen Griffin), to mother (Jennifer Griffin-Wiesner), to daughter (Nora Griffin-Wiesner).

Today, in the final installment, hear from long time Annex community member Nora Griffin-Wiesner, on her experience with the Annex Teen Clinic as a third generation supporter.

“I have known of the Annex for what feels like my whole life. Today, I understand its importance more deeply, but for years, it was just ‘that cool, important organization my grandma is involved with.’ I do not remember a time when I did not hold deep respect for and pride in the work they do—both on a personal level, as a place I know I can turn to for help or care, and on a philosophical level, for the values they uphold and the impact they strive to make.

My family’s involvement with the Annex influenced my views on reproductive health and rights by making me see reproductive health as exactly what it is: normal and necessary. Just like any check-up, it is basic care and a human right.

I believe it’s important for young people to have access to the services and education the Annex provides. Knowledge is power. As we grow up and learn about ourselves and the world around us it is essential that we also learn about the bodies that carry us through it. If we want to support young people in having healthy relationships—with themselves and others—we need to make sure they have access to accurate information that empowers them to take charge of their health and sexual well-being.

For me, as a younger person, reproductive freedom means that I can dream, I can plan, I can not plan, I have freedom, and I can have fun. I want to tell everyone my age that the Annex is so cool. Whether you have a serious concern or a curiosity, they are happy to help. Also, it’s pretty badass to support, work for, or utilize an organization that helps you live life the way you want to.”

Thank you for reading! We are grateful to Nora Griffin-Wiesner and her family for sharing their stories. Tune in to the other stories in this series of 3 Generations. 1 Mission. here.
